What Alo discloses about chemical finishing

This is where the transparency gap becomes relevant. Fiber content labels tell you the base fibers in a garment. They do not tell you what chemical finishes were applied during or after manufacturing, which can include durable water repellent treatments, antimicrobial coatings, softening agents, and wrinkle-resistant treatments.

Alo Yoga does not publicly disclose a comprehensive chemical finishing policy or PFAS-specific commitments at the level of independently verified documentation as of this writing. The brand's sustainability content focuses on packaging, carbon commitments, and manufacturing partnerships rather than on chemical transparency at the fabric finish level.

This absence of disclosure does not mean harmful chemicals are present. It means there is no independently verified confirmation that they are absent. The standard worth applying to any activewear brand making wellness or sustainability claims is straightforward: does an independent third-party certification cover the finished garment for harmful substances, including PFAS?

OEKO-TEX Standard 100 is the most widely recognized standard for this. It tests the finished textile for regulated harmful substances, including PFAS compounds, heavy metals, formaldehyde, and phthalates, and is issued by an independent certifying body. A brand carrying this certification on its finished products has had those products independently tested, not just self-assessed.

Fiber composition also matters. Fabrics that achieve their performance properties through fiber structure rather than chemical finishing, such as TENCEL Lyocell, remove the DWR question from the equation because no DWR treatment is required to achieve moisture management and breathability.
