What This Collection Is and What It Is Not
Bellissima does not make maternity-specific activewear. The Sempre collection is designed as standard-fit activewear in sizes XS to XL. There is no belly panel, no maternity-specific stretch zone, and no postpartum compression design. The reason this collection exists is that many pregnant women find the Sempre Leggings and Sempre Shorts comfortable during pregnancy, and many postpartum women find TENCEL Lyocell particularly well-suited to sensitive, recovering skin. That experience is genuine and worth naming honestly. The high-waisted V-shaped back waistband is not elasticated in a way that compresses the abdomen tightly, which makes the legging more comfortable than many conventional high-waist designs during the earlier stages of pregnancy. TENCEL Lyocell has a peer-reviewed clinical recognition for reduced irritation against sensitive and atopic skin (Stinco et al., 2015), which is relevant for postpartum skin that is more reactive than usual.
Where These Garments Genuinely Help During Pregnancy
Bellissima's activewear is suited to the low-impact activities that are commonly recommended during pregnancy: prenatal yoga, pilates, barre, walking, and recovery movement. The diamond crotch gusset removes inner seam pressure that can become uncomfortable as the body changes shape during pregnancy. The soft TENCEL Lyocell surface sits against skin without the friction, pilling, or static associated with synthetic fabrics, which can become more noticeable when skin sensitivity increases during pregnancy. The Sempre Leggings' 27.5-inch inseam and full-length coverage suit activities where full leg coverage is preferred. The Sempre Shorts' 6-inch inseam suits warmer-weather or lower-impact sessions where less coverage is preferred. Neither the bras nor the shorts are designed for nursing access, and that is stated plainly here.
The Honest Fit Note Every Buyer Should Read
Because Bellissima does not make a maternity-specific cut, fit during pregnancy will vary significantly by trimester and individual body change. In the first and early second trimester, the standard fit will likely work as expected across XS to XL. In the later second and third trimester, the standard waistband will not accommodate a full bump comfortably, and a dedicated maternity legging with a belly panel or under-bump design will be more appropriate. Postpartum, the standard fit returns to expected sizing as the body recovers. The Sempre bras are halter and twist-style designs with no nursing access panel. They are not suitable as nursing bras. TENCEL Lyocell is OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified at the fiber level through Lenzing AG. Bellissima does not currently hold finished-product OEKO-TEX certification.
Are Bellissima leggings maternity leggings?
No. The Sempre Leggings are standard-fit activewear, not a maternity-specific cut. There is no belly panel or maternity stretch zone. Many women find them comfortable in early pregnancy due to the non-compressive V-back waistband and soft TENCEL Lyocell fabric, but they are not designed or marketed as maternity leggings.
Can I wear Bellissima during pregnancy?
Many women do, particularly in the first and early second trimester when standard sizing still fits comfortably. In the later second and third trimester, the standard waistband will not accommodate a full bump, and a dedicated maternity design with a belly panel will be more appropriate.
Are the bras suitable for nursing?
No. The Sempre Halter Bra and Sempre Twist Bra are not designed with nursing access. They do not have drop cups, clip-down straps, or any nursing-accessible construction.
Why is TENCEL good for postpartum skin?
TENCEL Lyocell has clinical recognition for reduced skin irritation in sensitive and atopic skin (Stinco et al., 2015). Postpartum skin can be more reactive and sensitive than usual, and the smooth, non-static fiber surface of TENCEL Lyocell reduces the friction and irritation that synthetic fabrics can cause.
What activities are suitable during pregnancy?
