Why Natural Fiber Belongs in Yoga
Yoga has roots in natural materials. Cotton was the original yoga fabric, valued for its breathability and softness against the skin during extended practice. The shift to synthetic yoga clothes happened because polyester and nylon offered stretch and moisture-wicking that cotton could not match. TENCEL Lyocell offers a third path: the natural fiber origin of cotton with moisture management that synthetic fabrics achieve only through chemical treatment. A review in the Journal of Natural Fibers (Ozdil et al., 2012) found lyocell fabrics demonstrated superior moisture transport compared to polyester under equivalent test conditions. For a practice built around breath, body awareness, and intentional movement, the fiber in your clothes is not incidental.
How These Yoga Clothes Are Built
The Sempre Leggings are 240 GSM, providing full opacity in downward dog, wheel pose, and any inversion where transparency would otherwise be a concern. The diamond crotch gusset eliminates the central seam that restricts deep hip-opening postures including pigeon, lizard, and splits preparation. The high-waisted V-back waistband sits flat through forward folds and seated twists without rolling down. The laser-cut hem removes the bulk at the ankle that disrupts the line of the pose. Each detail reflects a specific yoga movement demand. Bellissima's yoga clothes are made from 92% TENCEL Lyocell and 8% spandex, carrying OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certification at the fiber level through Lenzing AG.
An Honest Note on Hot Yoga
Bellissima's yoga clothes are suited for most yoga formats: vinyasa, hatha, yin, restorative, barre, and pilates. Hot yoga at 105 degrees Fahrenheit is the exception. At that temperature and sustained sweat output, TENCEL Lyocell's moisture capacity is exceeded in a way that synthetic technical fabrics are engineered to handle. This collection does not claim fitness for hot yoga. For every other format, TENCEL Lyocell's breathability and natural fiber properties are a genuine fit with what yoga demands from fabric.
Frequently Asked Questions
What yoga styles are these clothes best suited for?
Vinyasa, hatha, yin, restorative, and pilates. The 240 GSM fabric and gusset construction handle the full range of these movement demands. Hot yoga at 105 degrees Fahrenheit is outside the honest ceiling for this fabric.
Are these yoga clothes see-through?
No. The Sempre Leggings and Sempre Shorts are 240 GSM and fully opaque in all positions, including inversions and deep forward folds. Squat-proof and fully opaque are both honest claims for this fabric weight.
What is the fabric composition?
92% TENCEL Lyocell and 8% spandex. TENCEL Lyocell is a natural cellulosic fiber derived from wood pulp by Lenzing AG. The fiber carries OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certification at the fiber level. The finished garments do not currently hold a separate finished-product OEKO-TEX certification.
Do these have a gusset?
Yes. Both the Sempre Leggings and Sempre Shorts have a diamond crotch gusset that eliminates seam restriction in deep hip-opening postures.
Are these yoga clothes non-toxic?
The fiber base is TENCEL Lyocell with OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certification at the fiber level. No PFAS treatments. No petroleum-derived synthetic fiber base beyond the 8% spandex. Microplastic-free and plastic-free claims cannot be made due to the spandex content.
Can I wear these for pilates as well as yoga?
Yes. The construction details that work for yoga, opacity, gusset, waistband stability, translate directly to pilates and barre.
