The Construction Behind the Opacity
Opacity in leggings is a function of fabric construction and fiber density, not marketing copy. Many leggings described as opaque are made from single-jersey knits that become sheer when stretched past a moderate angle. The Sempre Leggings use an interlock weft knit: a double-face construction where the front and back of the fabric are knitted simultaneously as a locked unit. This produces a denser, more consistent fabric surface than a single-layer knit at the same weight, which is what maintains full opacity through the full range of yoga, pilates, and barre movement. The fabric is 92% TENCEL Lyocell and 8% spandex. The TENCEL component is a dense cellulosic fiber that does not become transparent under stretch. The 8% spandex provides elastic recovery that returns the fabric to its resting density between positions, keeping opacity consistent throughout a class rather than only in static standing poses.
How Opacity Holds Across Movement
Bellissima's opaque leggings are designed for yoga, pilates, barre, reformer, and walking, where the legging is put through the full range of positions that test opacity: forward folds, deep squats, wide-stance lunges, downward dog, seated piriformis stretches, and supine movements. The high-waisted V-shaped back waistband sits flush against the body without gapping, which removes the opacity failure point at the waistband that affects standard straight-band leggings in forward bends. The diamond crotch gusset eliminates the central seam tension at the inner crotch that can pull fabric thin in wide-stance and split-leg positions. The 27.5-inch full-length inseam and laser-cut hem maintain the same construction density from waistband to ankle with no thinning at stress points (Lenzing AG, 2023).
Honest Limits
Opacity is maintained throughout the intended activity range. These leggings are not tested or positioned for sustained running, HIIT, or Bikram hot yoga at 105 degrees Fahrenheit. At those output levels, the fabric performs differently, and moisture saturation can affect hand feel. For the studio-based and low-impact activities this collection targets, the opacity claim is genuine and based on construction rather than assertion. The TENCEL Lyocell fiber is OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified at the fiber level through Lenzing AG. Bellissima does not currently hold finished-product OEKO-TEX certification. Sizes XS to XL, black.
